Wilson’s Promontory - Queens Birthday Weekend 2006

It was a long weekend, and with the up-and-coming week-long adventure back to Mt Kosciuszko, we were looking for a decent hike to get the fitness up and test some gear. Wilson’s Prom was the location chosen and away we went. Mat, Pete and I headed down on Friday night to camp at Tidal River.Up early on the Saturday we amended our Permit to include Pete, a late starter and a quick car shuffle to leave one car at the Oberon Car Park to avoid the nasty road bash back to Tidal River. The Trip we chose saw us doing 15, 10 and 9.5 over the 3 days. A relatively flat walk with mild up and down hills, scenic views and plenty of beaches to visit and take a swim, particularly in the warmer months. The First day we walked through the site of the bushfire, which means the views were amazing and the scrub was virtually none existant although it is interested to see how quick the greenery grows back.Burnt, but still going strong! After a southerly walk around the coast line you head inland in an easterly direction on a 4wd track. The going is easy and the bushland becomes more dense. A quick right / left and the track drops back to a walking track that heads through a valley and over a slight valley. Once you again hit the sea you head left and a short walk sees you at Little Waterloo. There is ample camping, decent water and toilet facilities.

Burnt but still going strong!
