3 In top 10 For Outer Bounds Racing
3 in the top 10 for OBR
Perth, WA- The 2010 Australian Off-Road Racing Championship season opener at Hyden over Easter played host to 90 of Australia’s top Off-Road Racers. The harsh conditions of the West Australian wheat belt was the perfect backdrop for OBRs assualt on the 2010 Championship.
Good Friday saw a chance for the cars to be shaken down while getting a chance to Pre-Run the course aswell. OBR had a easy day making sure the cars were in top condition for the race on saturday. After finding a few gremlins in the #85 BFGoodrich Nissan Twin Turbo powered Jimco of Beau Robinsons it was off to bed for some rest before Prologue.
Saturday morning was full of anitcipation as the season was getting underway. Travis Robinson and Paul Currie rolled the V8 Jimco 200m before the finish line and managed to land it back on its wheels and still claim second outright in prologue.
“We clipped the inside of a corner and the car sort of dug in and flipped us over. Luckily it landed back on its wheels so we could get it started again and still finish in 2nd place!!” Said Travis
Beau Robinson and Roy Lukies were fourth in prologue and were happy with the cars performance says Beau” It’s just really pleasing to have the car running at 100%, we have spent alot of time trying to get this car right and Murray has done a great Job getting it to where it is.”
After a 16th place in prologue Brian Robinson and Trent Gilbertson were looking forward to stretching the legs of the big Porter on the run into town.
After section 1 which consisted of a 55km run into the Hyden township followed by a 80km run back to Smithys Place. Travis was still 2nd with Beau in 5th and Brian had moved up to 8th place.
“With some rain last night it made passing and catching cars a bit easier because the dust wasn’t so bad” Said Brian “Its good to see Trav and Beau having such a good run so hopefully we can keep it up tomorrow”. Continued Brian.
Sunday consisted of 4 x 80km loops around Smithys Place. The 3 cars run good except for Travis experiencing brake problems all day. Beau’s #85 Jimco ran flawlessly which is great for the team after having so many troubles with the car in 2009.
Climbing from the #3 BFGoodrich Tyres Jimco Travis said, “It was hard keeping this pace with no brakes today it got pretty cut up by the end and we had a few dramas out on the track. Overall we had a good race, we will be ready to go one better at Finke in the new Turbo car.”
So out of the 90 starters Outer Bounds Racing managed to take home 2nd, 5th and 10th outright in the first round of the AORC. Its a huge pat on the back for everyone thats helps get these cars to the races to bring home 3 cars in the top 10.
