The Ateco Warn Winch Challenge Round 3 of the Engel Challenge Series
Last weekend saw Round 3 of the Engel Challenge Series up at Bindaree Station near Willowgrove in Victoria. This round was the Ateco Warn 4×4 Challenge, This is one of the largest Winch Challenges held in Victoria with a total of 43 competitors starting the weekend.
The round runs over three consecutive days the first being held as a night event on the Friday. Two stages were held covering a number of rocky areas which saw the competitors push there rigs to the limits, and when the limits were reached the winches had to come out and get them moving again, further along the track saw the competitors challenged yet again by deep ruts, some big holes and a number of fall offs on the edges of the track to negotiate.
Saturday and Sunday saw the event opened up to the general public to come along and check out the action, There was plenty to see boh days with more than a few spectators slightly amazed at the angle of some of the tracks that competitors had to tackle. The terrain was grueling and thoroughly unforgiving and at times even the trees were againts the competitors as one team found out when the tree they were using as a winch point decided that its roots were not as deep as they might appear causing the tree to start falling over.
Overall the competitors had a long cold and wet challenging weekend whether it be the river crossings, rock strewn gullies, or the mammoth hills they had to tackle a good show was put on by all and it was thoroughly entertaining weekend for all the spectators with the thrills, spills and roll overs to keep them entertained.
Normally we would have the results here for you but as Sunday ran late they will be doing presentations later on this month so soon as there available we will let you know.
