Fellows Cleans Up At The Pines

All the forces of mother nature couldn’t halt David Fellows and Mark Bergamin’s charge towards a win at the Teagle Excavations ARB Pines Enduro held at Millicent in South Australia on the weekend. The fourth round of the AORC was shortened to just 3 laps, half the original race distance, after heavy rain had forced changes to the track after the first lap. Fellows took control of the race on the second and didn’t look back, greeting the chequered flag in a time of 2 hours 13 minutes 58.93 seconds. The victory at the 2010 Teagle Excavations ARB Pines Enduro sealed a maiden Australian Off Road Championship for David Fellows, Mark Bergamin and Peter Kittle Motorsports.

“Shannon and Dave have dominated for a long time and I think it is why it is so good that Dave has finally won a championship.” Dave has always been there on the same pace but has never had the reliability or luck. But this year he has done the job and we are pretty wrapped about it.” Said team owner Peter Kittle

“Dave has driven really well this year and was focused on what he had to do to win this championship and it looks like he has won it after this result.” Peter continued.

“Coming in to the race I was more focused on the championship, we had a plan to maintain third or better and that would have put us in good stead for Goondiwindi given that the other guys finished here and the result today… we couldn’t have asked for any better!” said David Fellows, driver of the #2 Peter Kittle Motorsports Jimco.

Despite the difficult track conditions the race unfolded to plan, with Fellows locking in third place on the grid after Saturday’s top ten shoot out. Placing him alongside Glenn Owen for Sunday’s two at a time start to the long course through the Pines.

While the deep puddles and mud on the exit of Teagle’s Quarry took it’s toll on many competitors, including the teams second #14 Jimco driven by Andrew Kittle, David Fellows managed to pick some clean lines.

“You just had to take it as it came. You didn’t know where the deep water was and unfortunately you had to drive it as you saw it. Luckily we were one of the ones to come out the other side. Towards the end of the last lap when you came back through that section, the water was 2 or 3 feet deep and quite boggy underneath, so we only just got through it.” Said Fellows

“The first section of the track was very wet but once you got out into the pine breaks it was quite a nice track. But I started to think on the second lap that if we had to do all six, it would have become pretty rough as it had already started to chop up pretty badly in places. At the end of the day we had a pretty clear run the last two laps and didn’t have much traffic at all.” Fellows continued.

“It was a testament to Dave. He got the car around out there and a lot of others didn’t. He drove with his head and he is pretty good like that and he doesn’t make many mistakes which is not an easy thing to do at the pace they go.” Said Kittle

“It was a hard race today. But I think it was good that they continued on with the race. I think they (the organisers) made the right choice and we got a result. I suppose this year we can all look back and say we had some pretty hard conditions in a lot of different races. Not every track has been ideal, but it is offroad racing.”

“We’re not going to do the full series next year. We’re just going to do Finke and some SA rounds with Andrew. We made that decision before we won this series. But maybe once we have the number 1 plate on the car and have a bit of a break up till Christmas the boys might get a bit more enthused. But we’ll see how it pans out.”

“It’s a lot of fun. But we haven’t really had a long weekend away from racing for about 10 years and everyone said ‘let’s have a bit more of a slower year next year.’”
